Art Therapy in New York
Art Therapy in Williamsburg, Brooklyn & Across New York
When words aren't enough, creativity can help you reconnect with yourself.
For adults recovering from trauma, perfectionism, burnout, grief, anxiety, and life changes who feel disconnected from their creativity, emotions, or sense of meaning.
What Is Creative Arts Therapy?
Healing Through Creativity and Art Material Exploration, Not Artistic Talent
Creative Arts Therapy combines traditional psychotherapy with creative expression to help access emotions, memories, and insights that can be difficult to reach through conversation alone.
You do not need to be an artist.
In fact, many clients haven't picked up art supplies in years.
The goal isn't to create something beautiful.
The goal is to create space for curiosity, play, mess, self-expression, and empowerment.
Through art-making, with watercolors, clay, collage, digital art, and more… imagery, metaphor, and mindfulness, and meaning can emerge. We can often access parts of ourselves that have been hidden beneath conscious mind.
Sometimes the things that need healing don't have words yet.
A Creative and Holistic Approach to Trauma Recovery and Artistic Blocks
Trauma can disconnect us from more than our emotions.
It can disconnect us from our creativity, imagination, playfulness, and sense of possibility.
Many of the people I work with are artists, musicians, dancers, performers, designers, writers, therapists, and other creative professionals who once felt deeply connected to their creative voice but now find themselves feeling burned out, blocked, overwhelmed, or creatively numb.
Sometimes this happens after a traumatic experience in the industry or in schooling.
Sometimes it happens after years of chronic stress, caregiving, overacheiving, or professional pressure or setbacks,
For others, creativity has slowly transformed from a source of joy into a source of performance, productivity, deadlines, criticism, or income. The thing that once felt alive can begin to feel exhausting.
As an Art Therapist, I help clients reconnect with creativity as a pathway toward healing rather than achievement.
Research suggests that art therapy can support trauma recovery by helping individuals process experiences that may be difficult to put into words, improve emotional regulation, reduce symptoms of depression and post-traumatic stress, and strengthen a sense of personal agency and meaning.
You do not need artistic talent to benefit from this work.
And if you are already an artist, our work is not focused on creating a marketable product.
Instead, we create space for curiosity, experimentation, self-expression, and reconnection.
Depending on your needs, sessions may incorporate:
• Art Therapy and visual journaling
• Creating inner critic parts
• Trauma-Focused CBT with art prompts
• Bilateral scribble drawing and creative abstract exercises
• Somatic and mindfulness practices
• Music, imagery, and body-based interventions
• Creative identity exploration and creative writing or poetry
• Support navigating the unique pressures of creative industries
I have a particular interest in working with photographers, graphic designers, musicians, dancers, actors, comedians, writers, therapists, and other creative professionals whose careers require them to constantly produce, perform, or compete.
Together, we can explore the relationship between your creativity, nervous system, identity, and emotional wellbeing so that your creative identity and personal practice can once again become a source of meaning, expression, and vitality—not just another obligation.
My goal is not simply to help you cope.
My goal is to help you reconnect with your authentic self.
